Proven ability to feed difficult powders PF-S Volumetric Powder Feeder controls both flooding and clogging problems associated with difficult-to-handle powders. Unique feeder trough effectively de-aerates and contains the powder at the initial fill cycle to prevent flooding. Independently driven agitator maintains optimum material conditioning while screw speed can vary to control flow rate. Material does not build up within the continuous screw tube liner, preventing binding or erratic feed.
The MH belt is driven from the head pulley located at the outlet end of the feeder, rather than the tail pulley located at the end inlet. This permits lower belt tension during operation for better sensitivity and more stable accuracy. The head pulley is crowned to prevent belt tracking problems and is sheathed in rubber lagging to prevent belt slippage.

Speed sensor mounted at idling tail pulley
Measures the true speed of the belt via rotation of the idling pulley, not an inferred belt speed based on motor speed. Belt slippage or breakage is immediately detected because the idling pulley stops rotating.
Scale outside material handling area
An idler supporting the belt (the “weigh” idler) transmits the load to the scale, which is located outside the weigh belt enclosure. This design has several benefits. The scale is not prone to damage, is out of the way for cleaning, and is not subject to tare build-up since material cannot fall onto the scale.

Thayer Scale’s optional automatic test weight mechanism provides a means for applying a precision test weight to allow completely automatic calibration. The calibration sequence can be initiated via the weigh belt instrument keypad or via a contact closure. The need for test chains is eliminated.
High accuracy, rugged measurement system 100% of the scale’s capacity is used to weigh material. Dead weight of the weigh idler and belt is mass-counterbalanced, thus providing excellent resolution and a high signal to noise ratio. Thayer Scale’s rugged load cell design assures reliable and accurate performance for the life of the weigh feeder.

Thayer Scale’s “scale disturbance control” (SDC) system further enhances feeder performance by minimizing effects caused by occasional mechanical shocks or vibrations that would otherwise affect feed control.

The model 18L scale design provides high sensitivity to even the smallest weight changes. The measurement of weight loss is accomplished with a unique flexure scale system coupled to an accurate, very sensitive, high output electronic force measurement sensor. Feeder “dead” weight (weigh hopper, motor, speed reducer, etc.) is mass-counterbalanced so that material weight only is measured. This feature helps assure excellent control even in “noisy” environments.

Operation An expanded metal screen is mounted inside of and parallel to the hopper wall. The shaker supported frame is rigidly mounted to the screen through the use of two bolt and spacer assemblies. The bolts pass through elastomers sealing mounts which permit the screen to be actuated externally by the shaker assembly. A support bar welded to the hopper supports the shaker reaction spring and shaker assembly. The shaker which is air operated imparts a thrusting action to the screen with an amplitude (typically ±1/8”) which is effective in shearing or under-cutting material producing gravity flow. Quiet operation is assured.
Bridge Breaker single material flow aids or multiple material flow aids can be used in common bins and chutes to prevent formation of rat holes or material bridging. Larger installation commonly require more than one flow aid, staggered in mounting height around the circumference of the outlet. Activation can be sequenced to create maximum, cascading effect.
